When choosing a coach you do not always consider everything which you would expect to take for granted.
Here are some of the problems we have encountered with the alarms on the Salvador Caetano Toyota Optimo V:
The warning buzzer for the front nearside hatch corrodes quickly and we have had to cut the wires several times to stop the piercing buzzer.
The diesel water trap has a piercing alarm and it is impossible to drive the vehicle with passengers on board while this alarm is sounding. When it first happened with us we had no idea what it was and the symbol on the dashboard was not in the instruction book. We believed we must have some sort of major fault and had to pay a fortune to call out a garage. In addition we had to hire a bus to continue with the tour. This was unnecessary and very costly.
The boot, however, has no alarm at all and all drivers of our vehicle have occasionally driven off with the boot wide open.
There is no idea which alarm is sounding when alarms go off. Surely the few pennies necessary to advise the driver of the nature of the alarm is important.
However, the ultimate failing of the alarm system in my view, is that while the bus is made un-drivable by the noise from the water trap alarm, there is no alarm whatsoever, either visual or audible, to warn you that diesel is running low.
