The Harmsworth Consultancy has long been associated with profitable innovation in Real Life. We are now applying that same innovation to projects in Second Life®. Over three years experience in this new medium gives us confidence that we can now offer our expertise to others on a commercial basis.

Many believe that virtual worlds represent the future of the Internet. Dublin Council has financed a complete reconstruction of their city for instance. Forward thinking companies already have a presence and it is important for you to join them. Remember the early nineties when businesses shunned the Internet as an expensive distraction? Many SMEs got left behind. Today every serious business has a website and many organisations are finding that the Internet is their fastest growing source of income. The Second Life®  population is greater than Belgium, Denmark and Eire combined. You cannot afford to ignore a market of that size? Its importance is even more significant when you consider that the entire population of Second Life® is adult, computer literate and used to doing business on-line.

In October 2007 we began investigating the possibility of using Second Life®  in order to promote Real Life business. Would on-line shops benefit, could tourist businesses benefit, how could we promote the Highlands of Scotland?

Initial research mislead us. Second Life®  residents appeared to have no interest in real life businesses. By visiting larger companies' builds within Second Life®  it became increasingly apparent that a new approach would be required.

A year's learning led to us creating the Scottish Highlands sim which opened for business in February 2009 showing that businesses can operate within Second Life® . This is now a successful profitable operation.
