Mindslip

Tony Harmsworth is an accomplished storyteller and has staged exhibitions, given lectures and guided groups of students and tourists for more than three decades. His ability to take the reader and wrap him/her up in the emotion of the situation is superb.

After writing non-fiction, within which he has told the story of the search for the Loch Ness monster from a sceptical viewpoint and the history of Scotland in a bloody, yet amusing manner, he has now moved on to Science Fiction.

He lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife in a croft house overlooking Loch Ness.

This is his third novel. His second novel is The Visitor and his first novel was Mindslip.

In this, his novel, he introduces us to an ordinary guy, a management consultant, who, when out walking his dog, discovers a mysterious green door in a convent wall. It vanishes from view.

The main character, Henry Mackay, is mystified by what has happened to the door and sets about trying to discover how something can be there one minute and not the next.

His nosiness gets both himself and his wife into deep trouble and leads him into the most incredible adventure through time and space attempting to save humanity from destruction.

More below and in the extract and synopsis pages, although beware that the synopsis is primarily for publishers and contains substantial spoilers. Read the extract instead. The novel has been nominated for the Watties 2017 - The Wattpad Science Fiction Awards for 2017.

INTRODUCTION

GREEN DOOR is a science fiction mystery novel which has more twists and turns than a Celtic knot.

Henry Mackay is walking his dog along the side of an ancient convent wall. He glances at the peeling paint of the green door as he passes then, a few strides later, stops in his tracks. What green door? He'd never seen it before.

He turns and walks back to the door and all he sees is ivy covering a stone wall. There is no door. Is he hallucinating? Had he eaten too much cheese? Is he day-dreaming?

It starts a trail of events which becomes an unbelievable adventure to save humanity.
